Nature photos taken by the children

The following photos were taken by the children using the digital cameras. They are beautiful! They will be submitted soon for consideration as the 'weather photo' on CBC. Stay tuned!

When writing happens everywhere

The children have been very interested in writing in the classroom and outside in the play yard. From writing on clipboards and recording what we see in nature, authoring our own books at the writing centre, labeling our creations during playtime, making signs for our the classroom, and signing up for sharing time, there are many times in our day where children can engage in purposeful writing activities.

Weaving outdoors

A fun activity to try that is great for strengthening fine motor control and hand-eye coordination is weaving. We had some beautiful, iridescent ribbon that the children were invited to weave in and out of the fence around our play yard. It was a fun and creative activity and helped to beautiful our space. The fence became our canvas!

Outdoor cleanup

Playing in the straw was so much fun but once it was spread around our school yard it was time to gather it up. We used rakes and our own muscles to gather it into the wagons and bags in order to make our play yard a little tidier. The children worked hard and were so proud of how quickly and efficiently they got the job done!

Creating an alphabet wall

We were excited to find a surprise in the mail this week! Some very special art supplies arrived so the children could help co-construct alphabet letters at the art studio that will be used to create a giant alphabet name wall!

We used a premade paper mache kit that was easy to use. The children just had to cut the pieces into the right length, moisten them, and apply them to a pre-written letter on paper. Once the letters are dry we will paint them and hang them in our new classroom!

Through The Eyes Of A Child

More beautiful photos taken by our very talented children! Did you know that we now have three digital cameras available to the children to use each day? They are encouraged to take pictures throughout our play time both inside and outdoors. We sometimes use the printed pictures as a focus for personal writing. It's a great way to infuse a little technology into our day and provide opportunities for the children to really get excited about what we are learning at school!

The Big Crunch!

We celebrated The Big Crunch today by all eating some apple together at the same time to celebrate healthy eating and eating locally grown food. Many schools participate in this simultaneously across our school board!

Ready?   1, 2, 3....
